How I Spent my Seollal

Well, it was the morning of Day 3. I couldn't believe how fast the time had gone by. For lunch we wanted to return to the nice stretch of seafood restaurants and their staff vying for our business in Boat Quay. This is the same area which we discovered the night before.
We woke up late, took a walk down to Boat Quay, and enjoyed a nice riverside meal.

Fat and happy, we then trotted around the nearby Chinatown streets and markets. The area was in a celebratory state in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday. Deuk finally found some sunglasses (thank god, I was about to leave him in Chinatown if I heard the word one more time!), we perused the markets, and I got to make fresh sugar cane juice with lemon!
There would then be a short rest and costume change at the hotel before leaving on a tour bus to the Singapore Zoo for their famous Night Safari! The zoo has an amazing open plan with cattle grids, well-disguised wires, and moats and other natural barriers so you feel really close to the animals. Also, you get the idea the animals really don't mind hanging out there. I enjoy when a zoo goes to the trouble of keeping the animals happy ^^
Unfortunately, the tram-style safari doesn't allow to set up for good pictures as it is moving all the time. I got a few pictures when we walked the Fishing Cat Trail after the tour, but our time was limited. Overall, though it was totally worthwhile, and a great experience.

How I Spent my Seollal

After enjoying room service breakfast in our fabulous hotel room, we took the bus into the city. On the way we stopped at a street-side shopping area to have a snack and transfer buses. Finally (it was really only ~2 hours after leaving the airport hotel, but my bag was really heavy!) we got to our next hotel located in the center of Little India. We dropped our bags off, took a quick rest, and went out walking around to discover our new neighborhood. As it turned out, we took a bus to Orchard Road, another famous shopping area to find Deuk some sunglasses. That didn't go so well... Orchard Road is better for window shopping than for buying as it's mostly high end shops. Although we kept searching, and searching... and searching, he couldn't find a pair that suited him.

Later that night, we also took a quick walk through Chinatown and headed up to Clarke Quay and Boat Quay (pronounced "key") for a bit of nightlife. Two overpriced drinks, a few blurry pictures and a bit of live music later, we walked. We also discovered there was great seafood to be had there and planned to return the next day for lunch. Took the subway back to 81 Dickson.

How I Spent my Seollal

(Little background: Deuk Kyun used mileage points for his flight and I booked a cheap one with my travel agent. As a result, we were on different flights. I was set to arrive in Singapore at 7PM, 3 hours before him.)
After leaving ICN at 9AM, I first arrived in Hong Kong around lunchtime. I only had an hour before my connecting flight so I grabbed a quick bowl of Chinese-style braised beef noodles.
Later when I arrived in Singapore's Changi Airport the fun began. I told Deuk Kyun that we should just stay in the airport lounge since he got in rather late. I said I'd meet him at the arrivals area and then we could have a shower, quick (most likely uncomfortable) sleep at the lounge, and head into the city early in the morning to begin our sightseeing. Little did he know I had other plans. ^^

Once we met up in the airport I led him in the direction of the lounge, but we ended up in the Crown Plaza Airport Hotel. We had a lovely dinner in the hotel restaurant, enjoyed duty-free champagne I had brought, slept in late, and ordered room-service breakfast! Overall, a nice start to our lovely vacation.

How I Spent my Seollal

After a wildly busy Friday at work (preparing materials for the next two weeks when I would be absent) and an equally busy Saturday (packing up the last-, oh, face it, most of my things), I got on the express bus to Incheon International Airport at 2:20 AM.
This would commence my longest vacation to date.
